How did I miss this!?

Well, by avoiding reading much on the Internet on April 1st, that's how.

NVidia's April Fool's joke this year?
The 3dfx Voodoo 590, secretly developed by former 3dfx engineers. 233 VSA-100 chips on a single card, in order to match the performance of the GTX 590. The article is a great read, even if it's all a joke.

Sorry for taking my time on the Volari review! Unfortunately, no one seems to have reviewed the Volari Duo after it was released - Tom's only did a review using beta drivers. Curiously, the single-chip Volari V8 (using stable drivers) outperforms the Duo with beta drivers!

I also got my hands on a Voodoo4 4500 PCI. I'll try to get that running this week.
